The 2024 U.S. presidential election is now a close race in the battleground state of North Carolina, according to a new poll released Thursday.

According to an East Carolina University poll released Tuesday, Republican candidate Trump has a two-point lead over Harris among likely voters in North Carolina. The former president's approval rating was 49%, while the Democratic candidate's approval rating was 47%.
A Washington Post poll released late Tuesday found a similar gap. Trump held a two-point lead among likely voters in the Tar Heel State, 50% to 48%.
The former president currently leads Harris by 0.7 points in North Carolina, a state she won by less than 2 percentage points in 2020, according to the latest poll tally from The Hill/Decision Desk headquarters.
The High Point University poll was conducted September 20-29 among 814 registered voters and 589 prospective voters. Among registered voters, the margin of error was 3.6 percentage points. The margin of error among likely voters was 4.9 percentage points.
