Tensions have risen between Caroline Leavitt and SV Date, a reporter from Huffington Post. This shift happened after the White House press secretary referred to Date as a “leftist hack” following an article that critiqued her intense reaction to a new investigation.
In response to Date’s article on X, Leavitt exclaimed that he is a journalist who disregards facts. She labeled him as a “left-wing hack” who has attacked President Trump for years, claiming that he’s been bombarding her phone with Democratic talking points.
Leavitt remarked that “activists pretending to be real reporters” undermine the profession and even shared a screenshot of her exchange with Date.
The exchange spiraled further when questions arose regarding President Trump’s upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest. Leavitt responded dismissively to Date’s inquiry about the significance of Budapest, jokingly saying, “Your mother did that.” Date, in turn, asked if she found his questions interesting, to which she replied, “Please stop emailing me with dishonest, bigoted, and aggressive questions.”
Leavitt criticized Date’s social media profile, describing it as “a personal anti-Trump diary.” According to his biography, his most recent book criticizes the Trump administration’s handling of the pandemic and the Republican Party’s actions.
Date commented sarcastically on Leavitt’s reaction, suggesting that the Huffington Post now feels intimidated to ask future questions. He went so far as to trivialize her response by comparing it to “taxes on your job.”
Date also made headlines by sharing his belief that if voters re-elect Trump, it could mark the end of democracy as they know it.
