Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) President Trump slammed his promise to reduce the daily costs of Americans, asking, “What about that?”
“Donald Trump ran his promise to cut costs to everyday people, but he had no plans for that, but he said so,” Presley said at the rally. “Well, Donald, how are you doing?”
“I'll ask you guys,” she continued, speaking to the public. “How are you doing? Are your eggs cheap? Is your home more affordable?”
The crowd gathered to protest the Trump administration's efforts to shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and shouted “No!”
Monday's demonstration was organized by CFPB workers outside of Washington's headquarters. They are protesting tech billionaire Elon Musk, and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) aims to cut federal spending.
Over the past few weeks, Doge officials have accessed various federal departments and agencies, considering overhauling the federal government's budget. Democrats can warn about masks, an unelected official, and have access to confidential American information, including tax records.
“Last week, we saw a sign in the crowd who said, 'Doge represents a dangerous Oligarchs grabbing everything,'' Pressley said at the rally. “And I said it, and I say it again, Elon Musk will need to keep his… greedy and dirty hands from our government.”
She expressed concern about her daughter's generation and her future in the country as the federal government is undergoing changes that could have impact over the years.
The CFPB was created by Congress after the 2008 financial crash as a way to prevent people from being attacked by various businesses.
Fellow Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D., also attended the rally, expressing concern that the Trump administration would shut down the CFPB and benefit Musk and his payment platform, X Money.
“The CFPB is there to make sure Elon Musk's new project is scamming you and can't steal your personal data,” she said, which was what Musk was targeting agents. That's the reason.
