New Documentary on Barbara Walters Features Insights from Cynthia McFadden

On Wednesday, Cynthia McFadden, a former correspondent for NBC and ABC, shared that a portion of her interview with Barbara Walters has “not aged” since Walters’ passing. This revelation was part of the lead-up to the upcoming documentary titled “Barbara Walters Tell Everything,” which was discussed in an interview with People Magazine. The conversation covered the lives of both McFadden and the iconic broadcaster.

Walters, known for her bold interviewing style, engaged with a wide array of subjects, from influential leaders to celebrities like the Kardashians. McFadden expressed curiosity about whether Walters’ questions would resonate with audiences today. “Some of her interviews have not gone well,” she chuckled, referencing Walters’ memorable jab at a Kardashian in 2011, questioning their talent.

In her debut TV special in 1976, Walters also interviewed the legendary singer Barbra Streisand. Not everyone left those conversations unscathed, according to McFadden, who pointed out that “not everyone came out of an interview with the unharmed Barbara.” However, she also highlighted the seriousness with which both she and Walters approached their roles, especially during the time when Walters faced significant gender discrimination in the industry.

McFadden reflected on her own experience as co-anchor for ABC’s first female Nightly News, recalling that the atmosphere back then often overlooked women’s contributions. “Harry was really rude to her,” she recalled. “I stepped into that studio. Harry was sitting with the stage hand. They were all joking and ignored me. No one spoke to me. There were no women on the staff.”

Walters enjoyed a prolific career as an anchor at ABC, hosting the Primetime show “20/20” and founding the women’s talk show “The View” in 1997. She passed away in 2022 at the age of 93.
