In November, Nestlé, which owns major brands such as Nescafe and Nespresso, said it would continue to raise prices and reduce pack sizes in an attempt to offset higher bean prices in addition to inflation last year.

A spokesman for Nestlé said that pricing in-store is a decision by individual retailers, but added: “Like all manufacturers, the cost of coffee has increased dramatically, making our products much more expensive. As always, we are as efficient as possible and continue to absorb as much increased costs as possible, while maintaining the delicious taste that consumers know and love.”

The Okado spokesman said: “In spite of rising coffee bean prices, we are doing everything we can to keep our customers price low and provide the widest range for all our needs and budgets.”
