Carney Commends Trump as a Transformative Leader
During a recent visit to the White House, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney referred to President Donald Trump as a “transformative president.” This meeting took place shortly after Carney’s election victory in a liberal election.
In front of the press, Carney acknowledged Trump’s leadership qualities. He remarked, “You’re a transformative president; you’re focused on the economy and American workers, securing borders, and tackling the opioid crisis.” He noted that these issues resonate with Canadians, especially in light of his recent election.
Carney emphasized, “With the support of my colleagues, I plan to direct Canada’s attention to similar economic priorities, including addressing fentanyl and enhancing defense and security in the Arctic.” He expressed hope for future collaboration between Canada and the United States, recognizing existing challenges such as tariffs imposed by Trump shortly after he took office, which were later adjusted due to responses from then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“The history between Canada and the U.S. is strong, and there are many opportunities for collaborative efforts. While we anticipate dealing with our issues, we are also eager to identify areas for cooperation to progress together,” he added.
In response, Trump congratulated Carney on his election win, stating, “I just want to congratulate you. It was actually a great election. We were watching closely. Canada has chosen very talented people, and it’s an honor to welcome you to the White House.” He expressed enthusiasm for the partnership between the two nations moving forward.
