Prince Harry is ‘too focused on himself’ for a royal reunion, says expert

Prince Harry expressed on Friday a desire to reconcile with his family following a loss in court regarding state-funded security. However, some believe it may be too late for that. British royal expert Hilary Fordwich shared insights with a media outlet, suggesting that anyone familiar with Queen Elizabeth II would find her “horrifying” at Harry’s recent public remarks. According to Fordwich, the late queen cherished the limited privacy her family could maintain in their highly visible roles. She felt that airing family grievances in public was an affront to the values she held dear, particularly regarding health and family disputes.

Earlier reports hinted at similar sentiments from anonymous palace sources, who indicated that Harry’s comments about his father’s health were met with offense within royal circles. Harry mentioned during a BBC interview his uncertainty about the duration of King Charles’s health issues, following the king’s diagnosis of cancer early in 2024. The situation appears to paint a picture of a family increasingly caught in turmoil.

Fordwich noted that Elizabeth would have been particularly distressed by Harry’s ongoing willingness to share personal grievances. The queen had previously made the decision to allow Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, to step back from senior royal duties in 2020, a choice that ultimately led to their relocation to California.

Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 96, always aimed to sustain family unity and discretion. Fordwich explained that she worked tirelessly to protect the monarchy’s future, focusing on its reputation and stability. Comments from insiders indicate that Harry’s recent remarks about his father’s illness were poorly received and deeply troubling for the late queen.

In those interviews, Harry condemned palace decisions regarding his security, asserting that royal staff had intended to harm him and his family. He implied that his father might also be contributing to the issues, suggesting he should step back and allow security experts to handle matters. Some commentators feel that Harry’s discussion about his family’s private matters strays too far from the traditional values associated with royal life, leading to significant fallout.

Furthermore, while Queen Elizabeth had high hopes for Meghan, viewing her as a breath of fresh air for the monarchy, those hopes seemed to diminish as Meghan struggled to adapt. There were suggestions that the queen was once eager to help Meghan navigate her transition but found that the effort wasn’t reciprocated.

With ongoing family rifts and public criticisms, it seems the relationship between Harry, Meghan, and the royal family is fraught with tension. Observers are increasingly skeptical about the possibility of reconciliation, noting the lasting damage done to family ties. As one commentator put it, “Prince William will never forgive Prince Harry” for the pain caused to their grandmother. It appears the road to healing may be tougher than Harry imagines.
