Prince William and Kate Middleton Upgrade Windsor Home for Privacy
Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly making significant security enhancements to their new home in Windsor Great Park, England, largely driven by privacy concerns.
The couple, both 43, is adding trees and hedges around their eight-bedroom residence, along with constructing fences to keep the public at a distance. Reports indicate that painters and interior designers are currently at work, with scaffolding visible on one side of the property.
Planning applications submitted in June to the local council were modified, and permission was granted the following month for various minor renovations. These include new windows and doors, as well as updates to the ceilings and floors.
It seems that Middleton is actively involved in choosing furniture for their new space. The family, including their three children—Prince Louis, who is 12, and two others aged 10 and 7—plans to move in by December.
Interestingly, the couple is covering the renovation expenses themselves, aiming to avoid imposing extra costs on taxpayers. They are also reportedly paying market rent for their new home, which is valued at approximately $21 million.
Back in July, there were indications that William and Middleton were looking to make a fresh start, moving on from their previous residence at Adelaide Cottage. Sources mentioned that the family felt it was time to leave behind earlier challenges, especially following a cancer diagnosis from March 2024.
As news of their move spread, some neighbors expressed privacy concerns about the royal family’s presence in the area. One local resident welcomed them but hoped for a quiet family life, rather than constant public scrutiny.
However, some residents noted that this new location isn’t necessarily more private than their previous home, as the area remains accessible to the public. Local lore suggests that once William and Middleton ascend to the throne, they might not be able to use this new residence full-time, as a royal must have a convenient location for governmental duties.
Overall, the couple’s transition seems not just about finding a home, but also about establishing a sense of normalcy for their family amidst the royal spotlight.
