Princeton ex-soccer star charged with murdering little brother and cat near Ivy League college’s campus

The former college soccer star in Princeton, New Jersey, was charged with murdering his own younger brother and a pet cat in an apartment near Princeton University's campus over the weekend.

Authorities allegedly, 31-year-old Matthew Hartgen used a knife and golf club to beat 26-year-old brother Joseph Hertgen at about 11:15pm on Saturday. NJ.com It has been reported.

Officers found Joseph dead when he arrived after the 911 call, and his body showed signs of blunt instrument trauma, with some slashes on it, the outlet said.

The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office has charged Matthew with first-degree murder, weapons crimes and animal cruelty.

Both brothers were once outstanding soccer players at Toms River North High School and played in college. Joseph of the University of Michigan and Matthew of Exclusive Wesleyan University in Connecticut.
