Law enforcement has successfully apprehended the fifth of ten inmates who escaped from prisons in New Orleans, as reported by authorities on Tuesday.
Corey Boyd, a 19-year-old inmate, was captured after his escape last Friday. He was found in New Orleans and is allegedly linked to a fatal incident during a car robbery in 2024.
Boyd had previously been sentenced for second-degree murder and was facing additional charges related to attempted murder, aggravated assault, and threats against law enforcement.
According to officials, the inmates managed to flee through a concealed hole behind a toilet, scaled a barbed wire fence, and crossed a highway before changing out of their prison uniforms.
The remaining escapees include:
- Renton J. Vanbren, who faces charges related to illegal weapon possession and obstructing justice.
- Jermaine Donald, charged with second-degree murder, aggravated battery, and firearm possession.
- Antoine Massey, facing domestic abuse and parole violation charges.
- Derrick Groves, who has multiple counts of attempted murder and battery on correctional staff.
- Leotate SR, accused of robbery and vehicle theft along with various drug charges.
Sterling Williams, a maintenance worker for the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, has been arrested and is facing charges related to the escape, according to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Maryll’s office.
Williams claimed that he was coerced by the inmates, who threatened him with a stabbing if he did not assist in their escape.
