Pritzker and Hochul express anger towards Trump following the Minneapolis Border Patrol shooting

Response to Minneapolis Shooting by Border Patrol Agents

Democratic governors from various states have rallied around Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, criticizing the Trump administration after a Border Patrol incident in Minneapolis resulted in the death of an armed individual. This event happened on Saturday, igniting immediate backlash.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker took to social media to express his outrage. He stated, “Another undercover federal agent in Minnesota has shot and killed another person. We must stop President Trump’s ICE. Now. Defund it. Stop the occupation. Stop the murders.” In a subsequent post, he urged both Republican and Democratic governors to unite against perceived injustices occurring in their states.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul also condemned the event, labeling it “yet another horrific outcome of a federal operation that has clearly gotten out of control.” She emphasized that the American populace is weary of tactics masquerading as order enforcement, calling for President Trump to take responsibility and put an end to such operations.

Walz referred to the immigration officer involved as “untrained” and called for a halt to these federal actions. He expressed his disgust at the mass shooting perpetrated by federal agents, demanding that President Trump cease these operations and pull back untrained police officers from Minnesota.

In a news briefing, Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino defended the agents involved, stating they were “highly trained” and had served for eight years. The operation targeted Jose Huerta Chuma, an undocumented immigrant with a criminal background. According to Bovino, an armed individual approached the agents, leading to defensive gunfire after attempts to disarm him failed.

President Trump responded via his social media platform, raising concerns about the situation, questioning local police involvement, and commenting on ongoing financial issues plaguing Minnesota. He appeared to connect the incident with allegations of fraud in the state, suggesting that the Democratic party’s policies contributed to the current crisis.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called on the Trump administration to withdraw immigration enforcement officers from the city. He expressed serious concerns about the escalating violence and the impact on local communities, questioning how many lives must be lost before federal operations are re-evaluated.

Local authorities and community leaders are urging for a re-examination of such enforcement operations, criticizing the methods used and calling for a focus on peace rather than conflict. Frey articulated a hope for safety, insisting that the current actions are counterproductive and only escalate tensions.

DHS confirmed that the suspect was armed with a handgun and additional ammunition, stating that officers had acted in self-defense. The unfolding situation continues to develop, with local and national leaders closely monitoring the aftermath of this tragic incident.
