Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) spent the weekend campaigning for Democrats on abortion rights in Arizona, saying there were “no” single-issue voters.
“Look, people, no one really votes on a single issue, right? They have a lot of thoughts on what they're putting in the ballot box before they pull the lever for one candidate.” Pritzker spoke on CNN's “State of the Union” on Sunday. “Abortion rights are going to be very important.”
Pritzker made the call from Phoenix, Arizona, the capital of the battleground state where he helped pass abortion protections on the ballot this fall.
The bill has support from Republicans, but Vice President Harris has a narrow lead over former President Trump. Mr. Pritzker was asked by anchor Jake Tapper whether his support for abortion protections was linked to his support for Ms. Harris.
The governor dismissed the concerns and pointed to several issues affecting Americans heading to the polls.
“The economy is important, too, and that's why the Harris-Waltz campaign and the administration's policies they're putting together are about creating opportunity for everyone,” Pritzker said.
Trump has a slight lead over Harris in the Grand Canyon state, which President Biden narrowly won in 2020. The vice president visited the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday and called for increased border security as the state grapples with immigration issues and the Republican campaign. Biden administration record.
Pritzker said support for Harris is growing in the state.
“She's going to win Arizona. If she wins Arizona, frankly, the entire Trump campaign would be in turmoil,” he said.
