Terron Armstead Announces Retirement After 12 Years in NFL

Terron Armstead, a well-known offensive lineman, has decided to retire after a successful 12-year career in the NFL. Over the years, he earned four Pro Bowl selections while playing for both the New Orleans Saints and the Miami Dolphins.

At 33, Armstead faced a series of injuries, particularly towards the conclusion of his playing days. He mentioned that pain played a significant role in his decision to step away from the game.

Reflecting on his struggles, Armstead shared, “I’ve been dealing with the knees since my third year in the league.” He emphasized that training often felt impossible. “I literally couldn’t walk,” he noted, explaining that he often relied on painkillers to manage the discomfort. “After Sunday’s game, I couldn’t walk myself under my strength until Wednesday and Thursday.” The toll this took on him made it clear that continuing was not an option.

The Saints picked Armstead in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, and he gradually climbed the ranks, becoming a key part of the offensive line by 2014. However, he faced challenges with consistency, often missing games in various seasons.

In the final three years of his career, Armstead played with the Dolphins before announcing his retirement in April. He expressed mixed feelings about his journey, stating, “This has always been more than a game for me! This has been literally my life! I look back on my entire journey, I am grateful, proud, excited, and leaving peace,” sharing his thoughts on social media.
