Pro-Israel demonstrator arrested after allegedly shooting unhinged male who sprinted across street and tackled him

During a peaceful pro-Israel rally in Newton, Massachusetts on Thursday evening, a pro-Israel protester allegedly shot and killed a man who sprinted across the road and tackled him, but police have since arrested and charged the pro-Israel protester who was physically attacked.

Cell Phone Video In the video, a man can be seen yelling at pro-Israel protesters from across the street, “You guys are sick! You're defending genocide!” A woman, who appears to be a pro-Israel protester, can be heard yelling back off-camera, “You guys are so stupid!” After the video cuts, an angry, bearded man, wearing a COVID-19 mask under his chin, a purple T-shirt, black shorts and reportedly a Palestinian badge, sprints across the street, tackles and launches himself at a pro-Israel protester.

Another witness, Dave Sherman, told WCVB that the man sprinted across the road and tackled the anti-Israel protester “was really hard to take down. He was really determined. He was really filled with hate.”

Three seconds after their bodies hit the pavement, a pop was heard, probably a gunshot.

The video shows two other men standing over the attacker and pushing him in the face with their feet, before the pro-Israel protester sits on the sidewalk and tells the men to leave him and ask where the gun is. Another video The same pro-Israel protester appears to be seen telling someone to “call 911” and shouting at the attackers, “Stop! Go away!”, before later helping the injured man.

Investigators identified the pro-Israel protester in question as 47-year-old Scott Hayes of Framingham. WBTS-TV reported.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said Hayes announced at a news conference Thursday that he had been arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and violation of constitutional rights resulting in bodily injury. WCVB-TV reported.Hayes is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Newton District Court, Ryan said.

The unidentified man who was shot suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, WBTS reported.

Ryan said authorities believe Hayes was legally possessing the firearm, WCVB reported.

Newton police announced they would be stepping up patrols at places of worship this weekend, WBTS reported.
