Pro-life Activist to Sue After DA Misses Deadline for Assault Charges

A pro-life activist, Savannah Craven Antao, is set to file a civil lawsuit after a district attorney overlooked the deadline for filing charges against a woman who assaulted her during an abortion discussion.

This incident occurred in April while Antao was conducting video interviews. A woman unexpectedly punched her in the face, an event captured by Antao’s husband on camera and later shared online.

Antao’s husband expressed concern, saying, “This woman became aggressive and violent due to Savannah’s views on life support.” After intervening, he called 911. Police responded, documenting the attack with photos and descriptions of the alleged assailant. He remains hopeful for swift justice.

The assailant, identified as Brianna Rivers, was initially arrested, but charges were dismissed after Democrat District Attorney Alvin Bragg admitted his office mistakenly missed the filing deadline.

Antao mentioned that she was not informed about the dropped charges and learned about them through Rivers’ social media posts.

Bragg’s office subsequently apologized, stating, “All victims deserve their day in court. We reached out to apologize to Ms. Craven for our unacceptable error.” They pledged to take immediate internal measures following this oversight.

Christopher Ferrara, a Senior Advisor at the Thomas More Society, commented on the issue, highlighting the potential implications of such errors amidst a politically charged climate. “Not prosecuting these clear allegations sets a dangerous precedent for how society addresses violence in democratic settings,” he remarked.

In response to the attack, Antao intends to pursue legal action against Rivers, stating that the assault required her to get stitches, costing around $3,000 in medical expenses.

Antao asserted that the incident reflects a broader trend of political violence in the country, claiming, “It illustrates how left-wing violence manifests against those with differing beliefs. We need to shed light on this.” She also critiqued Rivers, who claimed she was acting in self-defense, asking her to release the unedited footage of the event.

Rivers defended herself, emphasizing her respect for others and denying any intention of violence, insisting that her actions were misrepresented.
