Pro-Life Group Seeks Investigation into Abortion Drug Ads in Florida
A prominent pro-life organization is urging Florida’s Attorney General, James Usmierer, to look into nonprofits accused of running “deceptive and misleading” advertisements for abortion drugs across the state.
In a letter dated September 19, which was shared with Fox News Digital, the group 40 Days for Life requested that Usmierer investigate Mayday Health, a nonprofit based in New York. Mayday Health has been placing signs around Florida promoting the abortion medications Mifepristone and Misoprostol.
“These images aren’t computer-generated. They depict real-life scenes—like a boat with tourists soaking up the sun—but they juxtapose that with abortion pills being advertised in a misleading manner,” said Shawn Carney, the president and CEO of 40 Days for Life. He expressed concern that this could be illegal.
The organization stresses that the advertisements frequently fail to include critical information, such as the FDA’s black box warnings about potential risks like bleeding and infection. Moreover, they allege the ads overlook federally required safety protocols and the potential legal ramifications in Florida.
Carney remarked, “It’s indicative of how abortion advocates are out of touch in Post-Roe America. They seem to be missing the mark, both legislatively and socially.” He and others from the organization are pushing Florida’s prosecutors to start an investigation, and perhaps pursue charges.
“It certainly appears to violate Florida’s deceptive advertising laws, so I believe they should investigate and possibly take legal action,” Carney shared.
Florida enforces a six-week abortion ban, making it one of the strictest states in the country regarding abortion laws. Carney noted that with a grassroots structure spread across more than 1,800 cities globally and more than a million participants, the group can quickly identify local issues.
“When incidents like this arise, we’re among the first to notice,” Carney said. “So, if we see new ad campaigns for abortion drugs or if there are reports of illegal abortions, we’ll investigate and, if necessary, take legal action.”
Carney also commented on the overturning of Roe v. Wade, suggesting that it’s forced abortion advocates to adopt more defensive stances that he considers extreme.
“Gen Z is increasingly against abortion, having grown up seeing ultrasound images of themselves,” he explained. “This generation is arguably the most pro-life in history for their age.”
As of now, Florida Attorney General Usmierer and Mayday Health have not responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
