A man, dubbed the “pro-life Spider-Man,” faces prison time after his antics on a Las Vegas sphere resulted in significant damage. Maison des Champs, a professional mountaineering activist, was sentenced to 45 days in jail for climbing the 366-foot structure on February 7, 2024, which led to $100,000 in repair costs.
This past Monday, a Clark County judge handed down a 364-day suspended sentence, in addition to ordering Des Champs to pay restitution of $77,270.32 to the Sphere Entertainment Complex, overseen by James Dolan.
Beyond jail time and financial penalties, Des Champs, 26, will also be placed on one year of probation.
Interestingly, his climb was part of a fundraising effort aimed at helping a homeless woman named Isabel, who was trying to cancel an abortion appointment. At the time of the incident, Des Champs walked across light panels in the entertainment complex, capturing attention online.
Initially, he faced charges of destruction of property and conspiracy but later pleaded guilty in October 2025 to a charge that reflected disregard for safety.
During his livestreamed climb, Des Champs urged his viewers to donate, citing Isabel’s struggles as a driving force behind his actions. His stunt ended up raising nearly $100,000 for the cause.
Officials at the arena highlighted that the exterior panels are particularly delicate, requiring engineers to work carefully from within the structure to prevent damage to the LED screens.
When apprehended, he claimed to have no prior convictions for similar offenses, suggesting that his attorney would clear him of responsibility in this case. In total, his climb raised about $48,000 for Isabel through the pro-life nonprofit Let Them Live.
Remarkably, Isabel ended up canceling her abortion plans shortly after the event, marking a significant outcome for the campaign.
Des Champs is set to be released on June 4th.
Interestingly, just before his sentencing, acclaimed mountaineer Alex Honnold also climbed the globe for a project called “From the Edge.” This film, led by Academy Award-winning directors E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, will be shot in various stunning locations, including Jordan and Las Vegas, incorporating innovative filming techniques to showcase the Sphere.
