Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) reacted to the bill on Monday, saying the pro-immigration border bill announced Sunday shows the “disdain” Washington, D.C., elites have for the American people. He said there was.
“There’s a big problem on the southern border of this country. You can’t be a country if you don’t continue to control your own territory, and yet this has really been going on for years, maybe decades.” began DeSantis.

“But it’s never been this bad. And now there’s a bill coming out of Washington. What a travesty it is to basically say we’re only going to close the border once per 5,000 people a day. “I think people are starting to point out that there are about 2 million people entering the country illegally every year,” he said, explaining, “We’re basically legalizing illegal immigration.”
“There are a lot of other issues, but I think when you step back and think about it, it’s the kind of disdain that people in Washington, D.C., have for American taxpayers,” the former presidential candidate explained. .
“So the amount of money they’re sending around the world, the amount of money they say they’re going to spend on border control, is actually going to be used to promote more problems. The whole thing is a farce. “I think so,” he said, explaining that the president “has the authority to protect our borders.”

“You don’t need to pass a new law to do that. Just do it. And if you do it, a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised that you did it,” he said. He thought the bill “doesn’t solve the problem” and is “another dog and pony show in Washington.”
“That would only make the problem worse. So I don’t think it’s that likely. But, you know, the people who are in Washington, D.C. right now, you never know,” he added.
Breaking news: Ron DeSantis reacts to Senate border deal
“Are we going to close the border only after 5,000 people enter the country illegally a day? […] It’s basically legalizing illegal immigration. ”

DeSantis’ response follows that of many others, including Republican senators, who have publicly expressed opposition to the bill. For example, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) said Monday he opposes the bill, citing issues such as unchecked “humanitarian” aid to Gaza and attracting more illegal immigration.
“This bill codifies catch-and-release, so-called ‘alternatives to detention,’ for aliens who say they *intend* to apply for asylum or other protections,” he said. “This bill also provides immediate work authorization for everyone.” They say they want asylum as long as they pass an initial screening by liberal bureaucrats. ”
“This is going to be a huge magnet for more illegal immigration,” DeSantis warned.
I have considered this bill, and I do not believe it will solve the border crisis and may make it worse. I disagree with that.
Joe Biden engineered this crisis. He can and should reverse his open borders policy right now. Here are some of my concerns.

The bill would grant immediate work permits to anyone seeking asylum, as long as they pass an initial screening by liberal bureaucrats. This will become a huge magnet for more illegal immigration.
