Vance Booed at the Kennedy Center Concert
During a concert at the Kennedy Center on Thursday, Vice President JD Vance faced a chorus of boos from the audience.
The Kennedy Center has expressed intentions to enhance its family-oriented programming, aiming to include more faith-based content that has often been overlooked in the past.
To kickstart this new direction, the Kennedy Center plans to host a free family screening of the animated film “The King of Kings” by Angel Studios. The film explores Jesus’ life from the viewpoint of a boy who discovers its transformative messages. This marks the Center’s first Jesus-focused presentation since 2022.
The screening is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, and symbolizes a shift towards incorporating more Christian narratives at the Kennedy Center. Historically, the only recent production identified as “Christian” was the 2022 performance of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” a musical that debuted in the early 1970s.
Ambassador Richard Grenell, president of the Kennedy Center, shared, “When I saw the ‘King of Kings’ ad campaign, I knew I had to come to the Kennedy Center right away. And by chance, I ended up joining the panel with the CEO of Angel Studios, which is a family-friendly program that I plan to support more in the future.”
The screening of “The King of Kings” signifies the first Jesus-centered show since the aforementioned “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Previously, the venue has hosted classical performances featuring gospel singers and renowned composers like Mozart and Beethoven.
“The King of Kings has become the most successful faith-based animated film in history,” remarked David Fisher, acquisition director at Angel Studios. He noted that the film’s true achievement lies in the minds it has influenced, with its screening at the Kennedy Center representing how far the message can reach.
Released last month, the film has been performing well at the box office, amassing $19.3 million during its opening weekend. Angel Studios, known for being a crowdfunded streaming service and film studio, aims to elevate pro-Christian content and support independent creators.
