The far-left activist, known for her involvement in youth initiatives for Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts and her volunteering for Senator Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign, recently gave an interview on Iranian state media, where she praised the late Ayatollah Khamenei as the “greatest anti-imperialist leader” in history. Kara Walsh, who identifies as an American-born journalist currently residing in Lebanon, made these comments during a broadcast by PressTV, which covered Khamenei’s funeral. She had previously been highlighted in Boston Magazine for her role in forming Students for Markey, significantly contributing to his 2020 primary win against former Democratic U.S. Representative Joe Kennedy III.
Walsh stated, “He was a leader for people around the world in the fight against imperialism, arrogance, Zionism, and genocide,” referring to Khamenei. Her remarks aired with an Iranian flag behind her. Walsh’s political background includes working as a communications director for a progressive candidate in Massachusetts and contributing to various campaigns, such as the Act on Mass movement and Boston City Councilor Julia Mejia’s reelection in 2021.
Notably, Walsh has previously been involved in the Boston mayoral campaign of Michelle Wu. A profile in The New York Times identified her as part of the “Marqueeverse” network supporting Wu’s candidacy. In a January report, she shared footage from protests in Minneapolis, where demonstrators claimed to have entrapped U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
In the context of Khamenei’s funeral, Walsh expressed that the recent conflict represents a significant humiliation for the United States, asserting that “it’s still fair to say the United States has been humiliated like never before in our history and signed huge concessions to Iran.” Fox News Digital attempted to reach out to Walsh and political figures she has worked with, but no responses were received by the time of publication.
