Protest at ICE Facility in Chicago Results in Injuries and Arrests

A protest against immigration enforcement occurred outside an ICE facility in Chicago, leading to injuries among several officers and around a dozen arrests. Reports indicate that tensions escalated as some demonstrators attempted to break through security barricades.

Since the Trump administration initiated Operation Midway Blitz—an immigration enforcement effort—left-wing activists have regularly gathered at a facility in Broadview, Illinois. On Friday, protesters rallied once more to voice their opposition to ICE’s enforcement actions. This time, the atmosphere was notably more charged than in previous demonstrations.

Law enforcement was on the scene, trying to manage the situation by clearing roads and confining protesters to designated zones. Nevertheless, some activists grew violent, attempting to access the streets, which prompted police to make multiple arrests.

Independent journalist Brendan Gutenschwager captured footage showing Cook County sheriff’s deputies working to move protesters away from the road. Conflicts erupted between the police and demonstrators, resulting in several detentions.

The crowd was heard chanting, “Who do we protect? Who do we serve?” as the protest unfolded. Reports indicate that 21 individuals were arrested, and four police officers sustained injuries, including a state trooper and a Cook County sheriff’s deputy.

Local news highlighted that this protest was the largest in recent weeks, with more participants than earlier events. Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson remarked that she had urged protesters to be peaceful, yet they opted for aggression. She expressed disappointment that outsiders chose to promote free speech while aggressively confronting law enforcement.

In response to the situation, Border Czar Tom Homan addressed the protest, warning that those who interfere with law enforcement may face arrest. He emphasized the right to protest but insisted that crossing certain lines would lead to consequences.

The Department of Homeland Security also commented on the protest, asserting that a violent group attempted to demand the release of dangerous individuals from custody.
