Protests Outside Turning Point USA Summit in Tampa Bay
In Tampa Bay, Florida, crowds of protesters gathered outside the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit on Saturday, opposing President Donald Trump’s policies and the issue of illegal immigration. Tensions escalated as a brief altercation occurred between the protesters and attendees of the summit, with police present to manage the situation. Reports noted that one protester was injured during this confrontation.
The summit featured a lineup of conservative speakers, including TPUSA co-founder Charlie Kirk, as well as public figures like Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld and Donald Trump Jr. As events unfolded inside, demonstrators marched outside, chanting slogans such as, “There is no fear, hatred, no ICE in our state,” and “TPD, KKK, ICE – they are all the same.”
One individual, sporting a “strong public school” t-shirt, brought a provocative display, holding a large roll of toilet paper marked with messages like “TP for the US: When History Gossips,” drawing attention to their dissent against the conservative narratives of the summit.
This protest coincided with rising tensions related to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions, particularly following recent discussions surrounding the riots in Los Angeles. However, the grievances expressed by the protesters went beyond immigration policy; they encompassed a range of social issues from calls for Palestinian rights to opposition against perceived injustices perpetrated against undocumented individuals.
Amid the demonstration, various signs represented broader societal concerns, including demands for due process in deportation discussions. Some protesters drew sharp comparisons between attendees of conservative gatherings and historical figures associated with oppressive regimes.
Post-march, demonstrators gathered at city hall to voice their grievances further, supported by local student activist groups. Their protest was labeled, “Turn the tide against TPUSA – Please reject SAS 2025!” highlighting their intent to challenge the narratives carried by Turning Point USA.
A flyer from the protest organizers emphasized advocacy for LGBTQ+ and reproductive rights, called for an end to deportations, and rejected white nationalism, ultimately pushing for a more inclusive and equitable society.
