A video circulating online has sparked controversy, showing individuals seemingly celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA.
The footage, posted early Thursday, features a young man with a megaphone exclaiming, “I got Charlie around my neck!” amidst applause. He then shouts, “Who’s up next?” to which onlookers respond, “DHS!”
Interestingly, an Instagram profile named Yarn pointed to a TikTok account belonging to a user named @vik.melter.
Another TikTok video features a young man stating, “I’m here again with the Los Angeles protesters,” where demonstrators chained themselves to the DHS and ICE facilities. The footage includes protesters tossing trash over the fence and calling the opposing officers “silly motherfuckers.”
Kirk was reportedly fatally shot Wednesday during a speaking event at Utah Valley University, which he described as a political assassination.
In the lead-up to his death, Kirk had expressed concerns about a troubling “assassination culture” emerging on the left, noting that a significant portion, 48%, of liberals felt that the killing of Elon Musk could be justified.
According to reports, conservative activists have criticized this trend as a troubling evolution of left-wing protest culture that has tolerated violence and chaos for years.
Following Kirk’s death, some leftist individuals took to social media to mock the situation, which drew further outrage.
Rob McCoy, Kirk’s pastor and friend, shared that amidst the dark response from some, Kirk’s faith in Jesus Christ gave him strength. McCoy reflected, “Charlie did not die; instead, he began to live in truth. His life was secured forever by his Savior Jesus Christ. He faced threats without fear.”
McCoy also expressed sorrow for Kirk’s family, particularly his wife, Erica, and their two children, asserting that “evil never won.”
