Protests against the government are scheduled nationwide: Here’s what to understand

Protesters march on 5th Avenue

San Angelo, Texas – Critics of President Trump’s immigration and economic policies are expected to express their dissatisfaction this weekend through protests in various cities across the nation.

The “Rage Against the Regime” demonstration on Saturday, organized by volunteers from the 50501 movement, aims to address what they see as significant threats to democracy and human rights.

Organizers have highlighted numerous concerns about the current administration, including issues related to the alleged weaponization of ICE against communities, the establishment of detention facilities, the suppression of the Epstein Files, attacks on transgender rights, and cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, USAID, and the National Weather Service.

Reports indicate that approximately 350 protests under the banner of “Rage Against the Regime” are scheduled for Saturday, according to information shared by the organization. Additionally, over 100 more protests and related demonstrations are planned for the same day.

A spokesman for the 50501 movement, Hunter Dan, mentioned that the protests coincidentally fall on Vice President Vance’s birthday. However, Dan remarked that it wasn’t intended as a special focus for the event.

The 50501 movement, which stands for “50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement,” has been instrumental in organizing various protests throughout this year, including events advocating for “hands-off” policies and other demonstrations. They’ve facilitated several “Day of Action” rallies since Trump’s presidency began.

As they have in previous rallies, organizers of 50501 are advocating for non-violent protests and will have designated volunteers to help manage conflicts during the events.

In San Angelo, the local protest has chosen a unique name to stress its intention for peace. A representative stated, “This event is called the rise against the regime, not the ‘anger.’ This is intentional, as we focus on peaceful opposition to the administration’s actions affecting our communities.”

The aim is to foster supportive communities, encourage civic participation, and invite others to collaborate towards enacting desired changes.

Interestingly, Monica, a participant in the protests, noted the similarity to the name of Los Angeles rock band Rage Against the Machine. Dan quoted one of their songs in a press release leading up to Saturday’s event.

Representatives from 50501 were not immediately available for further comments.

On the other hand, Trump has downplayed inquiries regarding these protests. Ahead of a prior “No Kings” demonstration in June, he remarked that he doesn’t see himself in a royal light, saying, “I don’t feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get what is approved,” when speaking to reporters.
