Publix Issues Baby Food Recall Due to Lead Concerns
Publix Super Markets has announced a voluntary recall of baby food items containing green pear, kiwi, spinach, and peas due to concerns about elevated lead levels. This was made public last week.
The affected products, produced by Bowman Andros LLC specifically for Publix, come in 4-ounce plastic pouches and bear a “Best if used” date of November 1, 2025.
Each product is identified with a global trade item number (GTIN) 41415-00901.
This recall impacts stores across Publix’s eight-state region, which includes Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Kentucky.
According to the company, the recall follows routine sampling as part of their commitment to food safety. “Potentially affected products have been removed from all store shelves,” stated Maria Brous, the communications director at Publix. She added, “So far, there have been no reported cases of illness.”
Customers who have purchased the recalled baby food are encouraged to return the products to their local store for a full refund. For more details, consumers can reach out to Publix’s customer care line at 1-800-242-1227.
Lead exposure poses serious health risks, particularly for young children, including developmental delays and behavioral issues. The FDA has been tightening its scrutiny on heavy metal content in baby food, resulting in more testing and voluntary recalls in the industry.
In light of this recall, there is heightened concern from regulators, pediatricians, and consumer safety organizations regarding contamination in baby food products.
For those who may have purchased the recalled products, it’s important to check the packaging carefully. If the GTIN and expiration date match the recalled batch, it’s best to stop using it right away.
It’s worth noting that no other Publix baby food products or green items are involved in this recall.
