Fauci’s Diary Highlights Celebrity Encounters
Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) recently disclosed the release of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s personal records, titled “Tony’s Diary,” which spans around 1,100 pages. This comes as Dr. Fauci gears up to testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday.
Interestingly, as Fauci reflects on everything from the virus’s origins to the political tensions during the outbreak, one name keeps surfacing: Julia Roberts. Her involvement seems a bit unexpected.
One entry notes an Instagram Live event he attended, where Roberts described her admiration for him. She reportedly gasped as he appeared on screen and called him her personal hero, which I can’t help but find amusing.
In his notes, Fauci mentioned encountering Roberts at least seven times. He recalls how she expressed her nerves before seeing him, saying, “She gets thirsty and nervous every time she sees me.” I mean, how often do you hear someone confess that?
On May 13, 2020, Fauci wrote about the ONE Campaign event where Roberts was present. Her reaction—gasping and exclaiming, “Oh my god, it’s Dr. Fauci. I’m here!”—provides a glimpse into how even celebrities can get a bit starstruck.
In a clip from their conversation, she also labeled him as “probably the coolest guy on the planet,” which, let’s be honest, sounds a bit exaggerated but kind of sweet, too. Fauci himself described her as “absolutely amazing.”
The two engaged in discussions about the pandemic’s effects on developing countries. Fauci ended his thoughts on the subject with a heartwarming conclusion: “It was an amazing experience!!” I mean, that does bring a personal touch to such a serious topic.
In another entry dated October 14, 2020, amid rising cases in numerous states and disagreements over herd immunity strategies with Dr. Scott Atlas, Fauci noted receiving a lovely flower arrangement from Roberts along with her email. “Julia Roberts sent me an email a few days ago,” he wrote, clearly appreciative.
On February 10, 2021, he recounted Roberts presenting an award through a virtual event, noting her nervousness again. According to him, she joked about needing to get a glass of water before his on-screen appearance. “Charming, natural, fun, and stunningly beautiful,” he called her—an interesting choice of words, right?
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee acquired Fauci’s diary as part of their ongoing investigation into the pandemic and related funding. This was necessary since he declined to appear voluntarily for questioning ahead of the committee hearing.
