Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for a “eastern ceasefire” with Ukraine and has instructed the Kremlin forces to temporarily suspend the battle until Sunday night.
Putin announced a short ceasefire on Saturday in a meeting with the chief of the general staff of Russian military Valery Gerasimov.
The Russian president said, “Today, from 18:00 to 00:00, from Sunday to Monday, Monday, the Russian side declares an Easter ceasefire. I order all military action during this period to be suspended.”
“We assume that the Ukrainian side follows our example. At the same time, our troops must be ready to fight back any possible ceasefire and provocation from the enemy.
Shortly after Putin’s remarks, Ukrainian President Volodymia Zelensky accused the Russian president of playing with “human lives,” adding that Kremlin drones are still flying in Kiev airspace.
