Putin: Charlie Kirk assassination ‘disgusting atrocity’

Putin Condemns Assassination of Charlie Kirk

Russian President Vladimir Putin has spoken out against the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, labeling the shooting in Utah last month as “a nasty atrocity.”

At a forum organized by the Baldai Discussion Club in Sochi, Putin remarked, “This nasty atrocity, and what we do, is alive. In fact, we all saw it, but I don’t know, it’s really disgusting; it looked horrible.”

He expressed condolences to Kirk’s loved ones, saying, “First of course, it expresses sadness to Mr. Kirk and all his loved ones’ families. We sympathize and sympathize, especially as he defended those traditional values.” He noted that the incident highlights “a deep rift in society.”

According to him, “In the US, I don’t think there’s any need to escalate the situation from outside as the country’s political leadership is trying to restore order domestically.”

Kirk, who was a co-founder of Turning Point USA, a nonprofit focused on promoting conservative values in schools, died on September 10 after being shot in the neck at Utah Valley University. A video of the shooting circulated online but faced removal due to protests from various Republican officials.

Former President Trump, considering Kirk an important ally, criticized any administration officials who appeared to praise the assassination. The incident has raised alarms across the US regarding the potential rise in political violence and issues surrounding freedom of speech.

While Putin acknowledged the Trump administration’s attempts to “restore order” following Kirk’s death, he also highlighted concerns about the president’s hesitations regarding the Kremlin’s stance in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

Trump had previously stated that Moscow’s actions in Ukraine were an “aimless fight,” akin to a “paper tiger.” Putin responded by emphasizing, “Russia has not fought Ukraine or the Ukrainian army itself in the past few years, but it has effectively fought across the entire NATO bloc.”

He further posed the question, “If you still fight the entire NATO Alliance, move forward with unwavering confidence and are considered a ‘paper tiger,’ what is NATO itself?”

Putin also warned that the US decision to send long-range missiles to Kiev could jeopardize US-Russia relations.
