Ironically, anti-hate speech advocates are the same party that perpetuates anti-Trump rhetoric that incites violence by comparing Trump to Hitler and continuing to spread the message that Trump will end democracy, rule as a dictator, and even imprison certain groups of people.
Though President Trump has survived two assassination attempts, the left continues to use the same rhetoric, leading many to fear that political violence against him will continue.
When Fox News' Peter Doocy raised this point at a press conference, House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's response was nothing short of gaslighting at its finest.

“It's only been two days since someone allegedly tried to kill Donald Trump again, and here you are, at the podium in the White House briefing room, calling Trump a threat. How many more assassination attempts will it take against Donald Trump before the president and vice president describe him in terms other than a threat?” Doocy asked.
“Actually, I completely disagree with the premise of your question. The question you're asking, and the way you're asking it in front of the American public, is very dangerous,” Jean-Pierre began, before criticizing the Biden-Harris administration for consistently condemning political violence.
“And coming from an administration that has consistently condemned political violence, from an administration where the president called the former president to thank him that he was safe, from an administration that condemned the attack on Paul Pelosi on January 6th and called for tensions to be de-escalated after the Butler incident, and now you make comments like that in your question… your question contains comments and statements and it's also very dangerous given that we've been very clear in our condemnation of political violence up until now,” she continued.
After this epic gaslighting, she then steered the conversation towards January 6th and used that as justification for calling Trump a threat.
“What I said about the former president about January 6th is a fact that you've all reported. It's a fact. You have a former president who is basically saying that the election results were not an election result, when over 60 Republican judges said it was a free and fair election, and over 60 said it was indeed a free and fair election. Over 2,000 people were instructed to go to the Capitol. It was one of the darkest days of our democracy,” she blasted, adding, “We also had a police officer who died as a result of what happened at the Capitol.”
“They were there because the former president told them to go. So I think that's a threat on January 6th, one of the darkest days for our democracy. So we've been very clear: We're welcome to have differences on the economy, health care, foreign policy, but it's not OK to bring in political rhetoric,” she said.
Doocy tried for a long time to shut him down and steer the conversation in a different direction, but he didn't flinch.
“But you're right, people watching at home might miss the part where you say 'turn the temperature down,' and there are mentally unstable people who are trying to kill a political candidate, Donald Trump, and they're still hearing the White House call Trump a threat. Aren't you concerned that people are taking that literally?” he pressed.
“We're using an analogy. We don't just want to say it. January 6th, Peter. January 6th. Wait, January 6th. How many times do I have to say it? January 6th, 2021,” she shot back.
Dave couldn't help but laugh at the humor of her “struggling” language.
“She's accusing Peter Doocy of being dangerous,” but he laughs, “she was just asking whether the Biden administration could defuse tensions, and that's somehow dangerous.”
