Mystery Deepens Around Missing High School Football Coach
The case of a high school football coach who vanished in the middle of an undefeated season has taken a new turn. The local school district has revealed that an unidentified staff member has been placed on administrative leave amid an ongoing investigation.
Travis Turner, the head football coach at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, was still listed as missing in the Virginia State Police database as of Monday. Police say he disappeared late last week while driving home to Appalachia.
Officials confirmed that Turner, 46, went missing on Thursday, coinciding with what they describe as the “early stages of the investigation.”
The exact details surrounding the investigation have not been made public. In a statement, police indicated that while Turner was en route home, they received word that he was no longer at the scene.
Turner’s wife, Leslie Caudill Turner, took to Facebook to express her concern about his disappearance, saying in a now-deleted post, “We love him and we need him here with us. Please continue to pray that he comes home.”
Meanwhile, on the day Turner went missing, Wise County Public Schools announced that certain employees were placed on administrative leave. The school district has not identified the individual involved or linked it directly to Turner’s case.
In an official statement, the school district mentioned, “One employee has been placed on paid administrative leave while an outside agency reviews allegations reported to the department.” They emphasized that this is standard procedure and does not imply any wrongdoing. However, due to the active investigation, further comments were limited.
A spokesperson for the Virginia State Police reported that a wide array of resources, including search and rescue teams, drones, and K9 units, have been deployed in the effort to locate Turner, but as of now, he has not been found.
Travis Turner’s sudden absence has overshadowed what should have been a triumphant undefeated season for the team. In his absence, Jay Edwards, an assistant coach at Union High School, has taken over all coaching duties while the investigation continues.
