Quit Mets bats, Francisco Lindor error waste solid Kodai Senga outing in loss to Marlins

MIAMI — Kodaisenga brawled early, but it wasn't an issue for the Mets on Tuesday.

He recovered from his first right-handed innings, only his second time back on the mound in a regular season game since his dominant rookie season in 2023.

The problem was the Mets' lethargic attacks on Sandy Alcantara and the Marlins bullpen, coupled with a rough night defensively uncommon.

The sum of that equation was a 4-2 loss at Loandopot Park, and the Mets needed Wednesday's victory just to finish the .500 on their first road trip.

Lindor made two fielding errors, but the biggest one came in the fifth, helping the Marlins establish a margin of victory. However, the Mets managed only five hits. Only two of the hits that came after the three innings came.

The Mets received what they needed from Senga. Senga allowed one walk with four runs on three hits (two of which weren't won) and eight strikeouts in five innings. He threw 77 pitches before leaving for the level he reached in his final spring training appearance last week.

Senga placed the Mets on a 2-0 fast hole on Kyle Storwors' 2-run homer in the first innings. Xavier Edwards doubled the game for Marlins and cleared the right-center fence before Senga left the four seamers at 93 mph in the middle of the plate for Stowers.

Second-leading Brandon Nimo Homer ran for the Mets. The explosion was Nemo's second in many games, giving the team lead with the Homers through five games. Nemo advanced at count 2-1 before blasting a changeup from Alcantara for Homer.

Lindor snapped a 12 stretch 0-0 stretch to start the season with the RBI single, which concluded the season 2-2 with his third RBI single. Luisangel Acuña opened the innings with a double, and Lindor was delivered after Jose Siri left the job.

Alcantara allowed two runes with three hits in five innings in his second start since returning from Tommy John's surgery, allowing him to score two runs with four strikeouts in five innings. Right-handed was removed at 70 pitch.

Senga hit the side in the third – all with forkballs – but caused the night's second bootground to fourth due to an error.

Jonah Bride went on two walks after Otto Lopez first led the innings with Lindor's second error. Graham Pauley's two-run double gave the Marlins a 4-2 lead.
