The Michigan Democratic Senate primary is showing a clear divide between moderate candidate Haley Stevens and progressive Abdul El-Sayed. Support for Stevens comes from Senator Peters, whereas El-Sayed has the backing of Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders. Some analysts, like Hugh Hewitt, believe a Republican victory in the general election is likely, citing ongoing dissatisfaction among left-leaning voters.

In a surprising turn, popular children’s educator Ms. Rachel faced criticism after it came to light that she contributed $3,000 to El-Sayed’s Senate campaign. This revelation has stirred concerns, especially as it relates to the contentious issues surrounding Israel in the ongoing primary race.

Samantha Cantrell from the National Republican Senatorial Committee voiced her concerns, suggesting that both El-Sayed and Ms. Rachel share a similar agenda that might alarm parents as they prepare to vote.

Rachel Griffin Accurso, known for her children’s content on YouTube under the name “Ms. Rachel,” was briefly noted in federal election documents earlier this month. It remains unclear if her contribution was a standard donation or more of a loan. The connection between her and El-Sayed raises eyebrows, particularly given his controversial stance regarding Israeli actions, including calls for an arms embargo.

During a recent appearance on “Inside Politics,” El-Sayed was asked whether the Israeli government should be labeled as a foreign terrorist organization, reflecting the deepening implications of the primary race. He has been vocal against Israeli military actions, labeling them as genocidal.

The progressive candidate has also come under scrutiny for aligning himself with far-left figures, including Hasan Piker, who has made contentious statements in the past. El-Sayed insists that partnering with such individuals doesn’t necessarily mean he endorses all of their views.

Ms. Rachel, while promoting her advocacy work for Palestinian children, has attempted to separate her personal beliefs from her children’s programming. She expressed disapproval of being accused of pushing an anti-Israel agenda, emphasizing her commitment to all children regardless of circumstances.

Accurso has also shifted her focus towards broader political involvement, including efforts to address immigration issues by advocating for the closure of facilities accused of neglect. She has echoed a political stance that promotes equality for all children, regardless of their background.

As the primary date approaches, tensions are running high. El-Sayed and Stevens will go head-to-head on August 4, with significant financial backing for Stevens from pro-Israel interest groups. Both candidates will likely face increased scrutiny as the race unfolds and voters head to the polls.
