Rachel Maddow denies antisemitism on left as dangerous as White nationalism on right: ‘No parallel’

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow has argued that there are “no parallels” between far-left anti-Semitism and far-right white supremacy.Behind the table“Podcast.”

Maddow appeared on the behind-the-scenes podcast after appearing as a guest on “The View” on Tuesday, during which co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin cited Maddow’s book about 1930s fascism and asked her about modern-day anti-Semitism on both the right and the left.

“I remember Charlottesville, but I’ll be honest with you, I’m also deeply horrified by some of the left-wing anti-Semitism that I’ve seen,” said Farrah Griffin, who asked Maddow if she was also concerned about left-wing anti-Semitic protests.

“There can be anti-Semitism coming from both sides,” Farrah Griffin said. “Are you afraid of that? How do we deal with that as a society when we’re only 80 years removed from the Holocaust?”

Maddow said she doesn’t see similarities between right-wing and left-wing anti-Semitism.

“This is one of those situations where it’s not a mirror image,” she replied.

The MSNBC host argued that the right-wing “neo-Nazi, ultra-racist, white supremacist movement” is not a new threat. She argued that the real danger is that the president of the United States would support it, suggesting that former President Trump had done so.

“The danger is that people in positions of power like the White House ‘invite’ it and give it their blessing,” she said.

“That kind of accelerator is very dangerous. I don’t think the left has anything comparable. President Biden [endorsing that]” she continued.

Prior to this exchange, Farrah Griffin had been criticized by Republicans for bringing up the former president’s invitation of Holocaust deniers and white supremacists to Mar-a-Lago in 2022.

Maddow argued that while there is freedom of speech in the United States, that doesn’t mean that people who hold racist views should be elevated or supported by “parties or high-ranking officials.”

She argued that unlike President Trump, President Biden and the Democratic Party are responding “responsibly” to anti-Semitic protests against the Gaza war.

“The Democratic Party, Joe Biden personally, and the Biden administration, [are] “They need to be held accountable for these things. They’re saying, ‘Yes, we don’t support this extremism, on our side or on the other side.’ With Trump it’s the exact opposite,” she argued.

President Trump has repeatedly condemned the anti-Israel protests taking place across the country, calling them a “disgrace” and blaming Biden.

President Biden also condemned the violence and anti-Semitism at these protests, saying, “There should be no place on any campus, or in America, for anti-Semitism or threats of violence against Jewish students.”

The Biden administration has faced criticism from senior Republicans who questioned why zero arrests were made after thousands of anti-Israel protesters rioted outside the White House earlier this month and allegedly vandalized two monuments.

Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chang responded to Maddow’s allegations in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“Madow is so dishonest that she cannot even condemn the violent anti-Semitism coming from her own side. Meanwhile, there is no greater friend and ally of the Jewish people and Israel than President Trump, and his impeccable record reflects that,” he said.

Appearing on a political talk show this week, Maddow and co-host Joy Behar expressed concern that their liberal talk show might be taken off the air if former President Trump were to become president again.

“I think he’s so vindictive that he’s going to go after us and you by any means necessary, possibly through the IRS and possibly through our sponsors, to get us and you off the air. How seriously should we take that?” Behar asked.

Maddow said she was not convinced that anyone in the United States who criticizes President Trump would escape punishment.

“I don’t think it’s OK for someone to say, ‘Give me all the power you can in this country, so I can use that power to attack other Americans, and I can use that power to attack my lesser enemies at home and destroy them,'” Maddow said. “That’s not a good system for anybody, and I don’t think anybody is safe if that’s the basis for wanting to have more power.”
