The brother of slain Maryland mother of five Rachel Morin slammed President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in an emotional speech to GOP leaders on the second night of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
“Rachel was a vibrant, accomplished athlete and mother of five who was raped and murdered by a suspected illegal immigrant in what has been described as one of the most brutal and violent crimes ever to occur in Hartford County, Maryland,” Michael Morin said in a statement.
“My sister’s death could have been prevented,” her grieving brother insisted.
“Joe Biden and his nominee for border chief, Kamala Harris, have opened the border to him and others like him,” he raged about Rachel’s killer.
“To date, I have not heard from Joe Biden or Kamala Harris,” he said.
Authorities said Rachel, a 37-year-old mother of five, was killed on Aug. 5, 2023, on a hiking trail in Bel Air, Maryland, by Victor Martinez Hernandez, a migrant from El Salvador.
Martinez Hernandez, 23, entered the U.S. illegally in February 2023. He also has ties to Salvadoran street gangs and a violent history.
Authorities said after his arrest that Martinez-Hernandez was wanted for the assault of a mother and a young girl in Los Angeles and for a murder in El Salvador.
“They never apologized,” Michael Morin said of the president, 81, and vice president, 59. “But when Rachel was murdered, President Trump called my family and offered his condolences.”
“He wanted to meet with us. He cared about us. That’s leadership. We need real leadership in the White House.”
In June, Trump, 78, raged on Truth Social, saying Biden was to blame for Rachel’s murder because the president had refused to “close the border.”
“Yet again Joe Biden’s criminal illegal immigrants have been indicted for the rape and murder of yet another innocent American woman!” Trump wrote.
The Republican presidential candidate likened Rachel’s murder to that of 22-year-old Georgia nursing student Laken Riley in February, whose suspected killer was also in the US illegally.
“Rachel Morin was a fugitive in Maryland, just like Laken Riley in Georgia, brutally murdered by an illegal monster wanted for murder in El Salvador, who fled to the United States because he knew Crooked Joe would let him in,” Trump claimed.
“Rachel Morin’s five young children will grow up without a mother because Crawdad Joe refuses to close the border.”
Rachel’s sister told The Washington Post last month that the Morin family fears Martinez-Hernandez may have victimized many more people while in the United States illegally.
“Our concern is that there are other victims out there, some who were attacked and ended up like my sister did, some who may still be alive and never came forward,” said Rebecca Morin, who hopes other potential victims will come forward.
