Raffensperger pokes Larry David over Georgia arc in ‘Curb’: ‘Gotten used to bigger stars’

Georgia’s top elections official couldn’t contain his enthusiasm for the state’s role in the final season of Larry David’s popular HBO show.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger wrote a letter to David teasing a key story point in “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” David, who plays an exaggerated version of himself on the show, was arrested for giving water to an acquaintance. He violated state election law by standing in line to vote in Atlanta.

of The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported The company obtained a copy of the letter through a public records request. The show includes several jokes about the show that refer to David and even about former President Trump, who is being indicted in Georgia in connection with his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. is also mentioned.

Trump was photographed at the Fulton County Jail in August, and David’s mugshot on the show intentionally resembles Trump’s.

Raffensperger said in the letter that David was “the first, and to our knowledge the only person, to be arrested for distributing water bottles to voters within 40 meters of a polling place.” expressed his congratulations.

“I’m sorry if you didn’t get celebrity treatment at your local jail. I guess they’re used to bigger stars. It’s the TMZ of mugshots,” he wrote.

“Given your obvious concerns about access to voting in Georgia, even with record turnout, the last two major elections have seen all voter wait times remain low. You’ll be happy to hear it took less than two minutes,” Raffensperger continued.

In the first episode of this season, David hands a bottle of water to his friend Leon’s aunt as she waits in line at the polling place. He is soon approached by officers and told that he is violating the state’s election integrity law.

“It’s illegal in Georgia to provide food or water to voters in line at a polling place,” one police officer told him.

While being taken away, David is confused by the nature of the law adopted in 2021.

“That’s barbaric, what law?” he protests. “Are you serious?”

Raffensperger is not the first Georgia official to react to the “Curve” conspiracy. In February, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) criticized the show for portraying Trump supporters as “racists and rednecks.”

“I watched this week’s episode of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ and it was about why most Georgians gave Hollywood tax credits to bring California’s pesky Republicans and Hollywood elites into the state. It was a stark reminder of how angry I am with the state’s Republican Party,” Greene said. post X, formerly known as Twitter.
