Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel appeared on C-SPAN’s “Ceasefire” show recently and expressed that President Donald Trump “deserves praise” for brokering a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas. Emanuel stated, “I have no problem saying, President Trump deserves credit here. Some people in his party might not say that, but I think he does.” He emphasized that this achievement aligns with America’s interests and reaffirmed the U.S. as a key global player.
Emanuel remarked, after the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, that the White House is looking to broaden the Abraham Accords. He stressed, “We should not back down from our responsibilities,” pointing out that no other nation could have accomplished what the U.S. did, which he believes is beneficial for the country.
He acknowledged Trump’s role in the agreement and commended both Israeli and Palestinian civilians for pushing their leaders to negotiate and stop the violence. Emanuel stated, “Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Hamas leadership wouldn’t have proceeded without pressure from Israeli citizens and Palestinians in Gaza; they never gave up.” He credited their persistent pressure as a driving force behind the talks.
In a New York Times analysis, it was suggested that Trump could have a legitimate claim to the Nobel Peace Prize if the terms of the Middle East deal hold true. Emanuel added, “This is an example of President Trump and his administration. I have no problem saying that.” However, he acknowledged that this peace agreement is merely a beginning and warned that it represents not the final chapter, but the first of many to come.
Emanuel encouraged the Trump administration to stay engaged in fostering lasting peace and called for similar pressure to be applied to other world leaders, particularly Russian President Vladimir Putin. He challenged, “Will the president take a lesson from how he pressured Netanyahu and apply pressure on Putin, who is facing vulnerability on multiple fronts?”
During the same “Ceasefire” committee meeting, former Vice President Mike Pence also commended Emanuel for his candid praise of Trump. Pence highlighted the importance of Trump’s support for Israel post the devastation of October 7 two years ago, sharing his experiences visiting affected communities and the lasting impact of the violence. “The president’s consistent stance and his relentless pursuit of peace should be commended,” he asserted.
