Former Republican presidential candidate and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswami criticized Democrats for making the conservative strategy “Project 2025” into a “boogeyman.”
“They’ve turned Project 2025 into this boogeyman, similar to Russian interference in the 2016 election,” Ramaswami told Blake Berman on NewsNation’s “The Hill.” “It’s this fake boogeyman that they’re trying to create, and I don’t think it’s working.”
Ramaswamy made a surprise appearance to speak at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on Thursday.
At their convention this week, Democrats sought to highlight Project 2025, a policy platform created by the Heritage Foundation.
Former President Trump has said he has nothing to do with the plan, but Democrats are using their convention to try to link a second Trump term to their conservative policies.
Republicans have stepped up their attacks on Vice President Harris and her campaign’s policy positions.
Ramaswami said Thursday that a “huge opportunity” is open for Republicans to grill Harris on her policy record, pointing to her backtracking on some positions she took during the 2020 presidential campaign.
Ahead of Harris’ formal acceptance speech, Ramaswamy said Trump had presented his policy vision to the American people, something his rivals had not done.
“The reality is that both candidates have an obligation to the public to clearly articulate where they stand, and Donald Trump has done that,” Ramaswami said. “Whether you agree with him or not, at least he’s put forward clear policy proposals. Kamala hasn’t done that.”
