Rams' new alternate uniforms pay tribute to the team's rich history

Sometimes, looking forward means keeping a grip on the past.

That’s exactly what the Rams are doing as they celebrate two significant chapters in Los Angeles’ history.

On Thursday night, the team introduced two new alternate uniforms in LA, both of which pay tribute to their rich Los Angeles heritage.

The “Classic Sol” and “Fearsome White” uniforms, revealed to season ticket holders at YouTube Theater, reflect distinct eras in the franchise’s journey.

Players like Matthew Stafford, Myles Garrett, and Trent McDuffie were present for the launch, engaging with the audience about the new designs.

The Classic Sol uniform marks the 75th anniversary of the Rams’ championship win in 1951, while the Fearsome White honors the formidable Fearsome Foursome defensive line from the 1960s and early ‘70s.

The 1951-inspired design highlights the iconic yellow jersey coupled with Rams Royal satin, directly stitched onto the Sol jersey. It also brings back the original three-stripe sleeve look.

This team was pivotal in bringing Los Angeles its first professional world championship, accomplishing that feat just five years after the Rams moved from Cleveland. They were the very first professional sports team in LA, arriving in 1946, followed by the Dodgers in 1957.

The Fearsome White uniforms feature a continuous Rams Royal shoulder stripe that mirrors the helmet’s horn shape, with correctly placed numbers back on the sleeves. The pants include layered royal fabric enhanced with reflective details and midnight trim.

A new alternate helmet is part of the Fearsome White ensemble. It retains the current design but sports a royal shell with white horns, reminiscent of the helmets from that era.

“These uniforms serve as a tribute to the moments and people who shaped the Rams into what we are today,” said Rams CMO Kathryn Kaiing Frederick. She emphasized that every detail is thoughtfully crafted to honor their history while presenting a modern aesthetic for both players and fans. “Classic Sol and Fearsome White are symbols of two iconic periods in Rams football, and we’re excited to share these stories in a way that connects different generations of fans.”

The Fearsome Foursome included notable players like Rosie Grier, Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy, and Marlin Olsen. Grier, the oldest living former Rams player, expressed his appreciation for this recognition.

“Seeing the uniforms we wore 60 years ago on the field today reminds me of the value of teamwork. We focused on the collective success over individual accolades,” he reflected. “Through all the ups and downs of the NFL season, we were strong teammates who relied on each other to fulfill our roles.”

The Rams are set to don the Classic Sol uniforms in Week 2 against the Giants on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” and again in Week 13 when they face the Chiefs on Amazon’s “Thursday Night Football.”

The Fearsome White uniforms will debut on the field in Week 12 against the Packers on Netflix’s first Thanksgiving Eve NFL game.

New alternate uniforms and additional merchandise will be available at The Equipment Room in SoFi Stadium as well as at RamsFanShop.com.
