Rams’ Draft Night Surprise
Thursday evening was meant to be a celebratory occasion for the Rams.
With what many consider the best roster in the league and holding the No. 13 pick in the NFL Draft, Los Angeles had a golden opportunity ahead of them.
They could have chosen a game-changing player to boost their chances of capturing the Lombardi Trophy and celebrating a victory at SoFi Stadium next season.
However, general manager Les Snead had something different in mind.
In a surprising turn of events, the Rams opted for Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson—who many experts believed would be a second-round pick.
This choice left fans and analysts scratching their heads, but Snead tried to exude optimism during his post-draft media session.
When asked about the selection process and involvement of the coaching staff, Snead mentioned, “This process began earlier, particularly during the offseason. Sean [McVay] was quite involved. By late last week, it became clear.” It sounds a bit convoluted, really.
Yet, there was a noticeable contrast in Coach McVay’s demeanor. In a video that’s gaining attention, he appeared rather indifferent while discussing Simpson, lacking the usual spark in his voice.
Despite the uncertainty, he still emphasized, “Let’s not forget—this remains Matthew Stafford’s team.”
While time will reveal whether this was the right move, it seems clear that there are mixed feelings regarding Simpson’s selection among the Rams’ hierarchy.
