Cayenne Pepper: The Rams’ Cold-Weather Strategy

The Los Angeles Rams recently unveiled an interesting tactic for facing the elements during their game against the Chicago Bears. In the frigid temperatures of Soldier Field, they relied on cayenne pepper as part of their strategy to stay warm.

As NBC’s Melissa Stark noted during the broadcast, the Rams came prepared with over 2,000 pounds of cold-weather gear. This included everything from wetsuits to thermal layers, hot chocolate, and chicken soup. Interestingly, some players even opted to keep cayenne pepper in their socks, believing it might help boost circulation and warmth.

Defensive lineman Poona Ford showcased his cayenne-stained socks in the locker room, mentioning that veteran player Al Woods showed interest in this unique approach to staying warm.

Ford recalled a particularly cold game in Green Bay and noted that having a bit of heat from the spice really makes a difference in these kinds of conditions.

Throughout the match, the Rams’ defense effectively kept the Bears at bay, forcing them into multiple comebacks that culminated in overtime. Caleb Williams, the Bears’ quarterback, displayed impressive skill by orchestrating a last-minute drive to force extra time, though his game-winning pass was somewhat of a gamble, landing in crowded coverage.

In overtime, however, Williams threw an interception, which allowed the Rams to advance the ball and set up a field goal attempt that secured their victory.
