The Rangers recognized first responders ahead of Sunday’s 2024 NHL Stadium Series game against the Islanders.
Blueshirts arrive at MetLife Stadium In New Jersey, New York City Police Department and Fire Department vehicles wear special jerseys honoring both departments.
Each player entered with a firefighter or police officer.
Puck drop for the Rangers vs. Islanders game is set for approximately 3:45 p.m.
The Devils defeated the Flyers on Saturday night in East Rutherford, making it the second consecutive day that MetLife Stadium has hosted an NHL Stadium Series game.
There’s a lot in store for both teams on Sunday, the first meeting of the 2023-24 season.
The division-leading Rangers are on a six-game winning streak and are looking to create more cushion between them and the second-place Hurricanes, who entered the day with a four-point lead over the Blueshirts.
Meanwhile, the Islanders are five points behind the Red Wings for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with one game remaining. The Devils are trailing Detroit by two points.
“I think everyone wants to make sure they’re immersed in this game and really enjoying every moment of it,” Rangers center Vincent Trocheck said ahead of the game. “Playing in an outdoor game. What an amazing experience it was,” he said ahead of the match. “But once you get on the ice, it’s all business and it’s all just another regular season game.”
Although this is the first time MetLife Stadium has hosted an NHL game, it is not the first time the Devils, Islanders and Rangers have played outdoors.
The Rangers faced both the Islanders and Devils in the 2014 Stadium Series game at Yankee Stadium, winning both.
The Blueshirts also won the 2012 Winter Classic, defeating the Flyers in Philadelphia, and the 2018 Winter Classic, defeating the Sabers at Citi Field.
