Rangers Show Resilience with Big Win in Winnipeg
WINNIPEG, Manitoba — The Rangers are hitting their stride at an unexpected time, which is kind of interesting. With only 17 games left in their schedule for the 2025-26 season, the focus on development and draft lottery chances seems to be overshadowed by moments like their recent 6-3 victory over the Jets. These seemingly inconsequential games, oddly enough, seem to boost the team’s morale.
It was a tense affair at the Canada Life Centre, but the Rangers managed to secure the win with three goals in the final period, marking their fifth victory in the last seven outings. This also happens to be their first three-game winning streak since November. Gabe Perreault was the star of the night with the winning goal.
Adding to the excitement, Adam Edstrom netted his first goal after a lengthy 33-game injury layoff, providing some much-needed reassurance for the team.
There’s a sense that the Rangers haven’t felt this positive all season. For the second time in just three games, they came out swinging, taking the initiative early. A penalty against Jets forward Gabriel Vilardi gave the Rangers an opportunity on the power play within the first minute of the game.
Adam Fox made an impressive move, scoring from the top of the zone—his first power-play goal since December 31. The team ended the night with a 1-for-2 rate on power plays.
Shortly after, Winnipeg’s Isaac Rosen, a new addition for the Jets, scored his first goal with the team, evening the score early in the second period. Rosen was part of the trade that sent Luke Schenn to the Sabers.
Meanwhile, Alexis Lafreniere has been on a roll lately—he scored his sixth goal in five games and his ninth in ten, converting a shot from Will Bogen to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.
Things were looking good for the Rangers as they led early in the third period. Ty Carty redirected a pass from Matthew Robertson into the net for his fifth goal of the season, but that lead was short-lived. Just over three minutes later, Vilardi scored, equalizing at 3-3 by netting a rebound past Igor Shesterkin.
