Rangers Triumph in Overtime Against Kraken
SEATTLE — The Rangers had quite the journey, to say the least.
With a 3-2 overtime win against the Kraken on Saturday night, the team wrapped up their longest game of the season at Madison Square Garden. They came back from a Western trip with a solid 3-1 record, marking their first three-game winning streak this season.
Will Quill scored the decisive goal only 2 minutes and 41 seconds into overtime, capping off what had been an eventful matchup.
Excluding a heavy loss in Calgary, the Rangers managed to overcome the Canucks—thanks, in part, to JT Miller’s return to Vancouver—and secured an overtime win in Edmonton. In Seattle, he faced off against former teammates Ryan Lindgren and Kaapo Kakko for the first time, and it was pretty intense.
The start of the season at home hasn’t been easy for the Rangers, so this trip was crucial.
Winning is clearly vital, but it seems like the team is improving with every game.
Right from the get-go, the Rangers were aggressive. They doubled the Kraken in shots during the first 20 minutes and worked hard on both offense and defense.
While they pressed forward toward the net, their defense was equally impressive, making it tough for the Kraken to find available space.
Vladislav Gavrikov scored his first goal as a Ranger right before halftime, putting them ahead. Although Chandler Stephenson evened the score with a power-play goal, the Rangers pulled ahead again before the period ended.
After stealing the puck from Matty Beniers, rookie Noah Laba facilitated an odd-man rush, capturing the rebound before driving it into the boards. This goal, marking his second career score, pushed the Rangers to a 2-1 advantage.
However, during the second period, the Rangers found themselves on the defensive again, and Brandon Montour’s one-timer brought the game level once more.
They came close to taking the lead late in the second period. With just seconds left on a power play, the Rangers managed to push the puck into the Kraken’s net, and Quill was right at the forefront of the celebration. Initially hailed as a valid goal, it was later overturned after a review by the officials.
