Calgary Flames End Losing Streak with Victory Over Rangers
CALGARY, AB — The Rangers faced yet another disappointing defeat, marking their second game in a row allowing an opponent to break their losing streak.
After a tough overtime loss to the winless Sharks earlier this week, the Blueshirts fell 5-1 to the Flames, who hadn’t managed a victory since their season opener. Sunday’s match at the Scotiabank Saddledome proved to be another setback for the Rangers.
With this win, the Flames ended an eight-game losing streak.
Conversely, the Rangers have now lost two of their last three outings this season. It’s frustrating when teams, especially struggling ones, capitalize on their weaknesses. This has happened twice now with the Rangers, allowing teams like the Flames to snag the win they desperately needed.
Calgary, despite holding the league’s lowest average of 1.67 goals per game, found their rhythm early, scoring twice in the first ten minutes. In fact, they ended up with a season-high of five goals in regulation against the Rangers.
The defensive sharpness that characterized the Rangers’ earlier games seems to have faded. They faced offensive challenges again, managing only one or no goals for the sixth time in their first ten. It’s tough to watch, honestly.
The Rangers initially took the lead when Nazem Kadri found the net against Igor Shesterkin. But the Flames quickly seized control, with Kevin Bahr’s shot extending their lead to 2-0. Calgary outshot the Rangers 12-6 in the first period, though the Rangers ended the frame on a high note.
Noah Laba scored his first NHL goal, cutting the Flames’ lead to 2-1, but despite some momentum, they were unable to maintain it. Even though the Rangers managed to outscore Calgary in the middle period, they still fell behind further—Egor Sharangovich scored, giving the Flames a 3-1 edge.
The final blow came in the third period when Blake Coleman capitalized on a Rangers mistake during a power play, sealing the fate of a struggling team.
