Matt Lempe was suspended eight games Friday for his timely hit on Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen in Dallas.
As a repeat offender in the NHL's eyes and a player who has received disciplinary action within the last 18 months, Rempe's suspension certainly reflects the league's initiative to send a message.
This is the second time Lempe has been suspended in his short career.
The Rangers rookie was suspended for four games last season for elbowing Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler in the head on March 11.
Since that hiatus, 23 games have passed, including postseason contests.
That's just 13 regular-season games between disciplinary hearings.

The 6-foot-8.5 forward has four foul play and eight major penalties in 22 regular season games.
