Nearly a century ago, the New York Rangers made their debut in the NHL.
In their inaugural season of 1926-27, they topped the American Division with a record of 25 wins, 13 losses, and 6 ties, although their journey ended with a semifinal loss to the Bruins.
Fast forward to 2026, and we’re gearing up to mark the 100th anniversary of Mike Sullivan’s squad. It’s not quite a full century of seasons, considering the lockout in 2004-05, but the team has revealed its schedule for 2026-27.
The season kicks off with an away game against the Boston Bruins, a team they’ve been up against for quite some time. Igor Shesterkin and the rest will return home for their first game at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, October 1st, facing the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Other highlight matchups at MSG this season include games against Vincent Trocheck’s Utah Mammoths (October 4th), intrastate rivals the New York Islanders (October 6th), and a game featuring Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers (November 1st). Upcoming games also include the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Carolina Hurricanes (November 22nd), and a rivalry match against the New Jersey Devils on December 26th.
Post-New Year’s festivities, we’ll see the Chicago Blackhawks led by Connor Bedard (January 7), the Florida Panthers (January 27), the unexpectedly competitive Buffalo Sabers (February 15), Alexander Ovechkin’s Washington Capitals (February 26), and Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins (March 20).
While it’s not been confirmed, there’s chatter that 2026-2027 might mark the final season for both Ovechkin and Crosby.

The Rangers certainly have a lot riding on this centennial season.
Last year didn’t go well for them; they ended up with a disappointing record of 34 wins, 39 losses, and 9 ties, positioning them at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division behind the Islanders and Devils.
To bolster the roster, general manager Chris Drury made several key acquisitions. He obtained winger Pavel Dorofeyev from the Vegas Golden Knights, added defenseman Marcus Pettersson, and traded to bring in the Utah Mammoths’ Sean Duruzi and Cole Beaudoin.
They seem to be setting up for a memorable anniversary season.

About the New York Rangers 2025-26 season
During the 2023-24 season, the Rangers achieved an impressive record of 55-23-4 and clinched the Presidents Cup, though they stumbled in a tough six-game Eastern Conference Championship against the eventual Stanley Cup winners, the Florida Panthers.
The past couple of years have mirrored that struggle.
Last season saw challenges for the team, with new captain J.T. Miller struggling to take charge, a rough start highlighted by shutouts in the first three home games, and injuries sidelining key players like Miller, Matt Lempe, and Adam Edstrom longer than anticipated, resulting in underwhelming overall performance.
