Rangers vs. Hurricanes Game 5 prediction: NHL playoffs odds, pick

The Rangers, who were forced out of Game 5 by the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and finally lost in the postseason, may be human.

Despite the Rangers leading 3-1, the series has already gone into extra innings, making it a much closer game.

They return to The Garden on Monday night, with the Rangers nearly winning the pick at odds of -105 at BetMGM.

It would be wise to expect the high-pressure game to continue in the third period, with the lead closing in on one point. The obvious game breaker is his goaltending play.

Igor Shesterkin dominates, which is a clear advantage for the Rangers.

He boasts an impressive .932 save percentage and allowed just 2.31 goals against, significantly better than Frederik Andersen, who the Hurricanes benched heading into Game 5.

Andersen has an 87.8 save percentage and has allowed at least three goals in each game this series.

Whether it’s Andersen or backup Pyotr Kochetkov, the Rangers will likely have a big advantage in goaltending on Monday.

Rangers vs. Hurricanes predictions

(7 p.m. ET, ESPN)

The Blueshirts were put in a tough position early against a Hurricanes team that had their backs against the wall and had nowhere to go but run.

Andersen played significantly better in Game 4 than he had in the previous three games of the series. It could be a sign of things to come, or it could be a one-off strong performance.

The Rangers only had one power play opportunity in Game 4, despite having two, seven, and four power play opportunities in their previous three wins, respectively.

Would you bet on the NHL?

The Hurricanes are struggling here as the Rangers have the advantage on penalties and the penalty kill.

The Rangers are just one of two teams in the top three in power play conversion rate (26.4 percent) and penalty kill rate (84.5 percent).

Carolina was the only team to finish with these honors and be on the brink of elimination.

The Rangers are, frankly, better than any other team when it comes to dominating opponents or playing with an advantage.

Bet on the Rangers ending the Hurricanes’ season on Monday and returning to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Pick: Rangers Moneyline (-105, BetMGM)
