Kid Cudi to Testify in Diddy’s Trial
Rapper and actor Kid Cudi is set to take the stand in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking trial, likely on Wednesday or Thursday. He plans to discuss his brief relationship with Combs’ ex-girlfriend, R&B artist Kathy, from about 14 years ago.
Kathy previously testified that Combs became upset when he discovered she was dating Cudi back in 2011 after taking a brief break from their relationship.
She also mentioned that Combs left a significant bruise on her back during an altercation.
Prosecutors allege that Combs was so enraged that he arranged for a convertible firebomb targeting Cudi.
Cudi is expected to be the third witness after Kathy and others testified in a court session that concluded on Tuesday about what federal investigators uncovered during a raid on Combs’ Florida home.
Combs has denied the accusations against him, claiming he has not committed the crimes being discussed. He stated that he uses his fame and assets to manage business ventures, asserting that others, including Kathy, are making unfounded claims against him.
His legal team argues that the evidence presented relates more to domestic violence than to any sort of organized crime or sex trafficking.
Kathy also recounted that Combs orchestrated several meetings with Cudi in 2011. She mentioned that her relationship with Cudi began toward the end of that year, and that they used a burner phone to communicate discreetly.
Kathy said that while she and Combs had broken up, they still engaged in what she called “freak-offs,” which involved sexual encounters that Combs occasionally observed.
During one of these encounters, Kathy said that Combs intercepted a phone call that revealed her communication with Cudi.
On Tuesday, Kathy’s mother, Regina Ventura, testified about receiving an email from Kathy in December 2011.
Regina also recounted that Combs once requested $20,000 from her, which she sent out of concern for her daughter’s safety.
Kathy testified that around Christmas of 2011, Cudi visited her at her mother’s home in Connecticut for a few days. She described their relationship as having become too complicated and dangerous, leading her to break things off.
“It was overwhelming,” she expressed. “There was just too much uncertainty about what could happen if we continued seeing each other.”
Kathy mentioned that she initially planned to return to work in Los Angeles but ended up traveling to Arizona after the New Year to see Combs and revive their relationship.
While abroad, Combs informed Kathy that Cudi’s car had been destroyed and that he wanted Cudi’s friends to see what had happened.
