Skillbaby Injured in Suspected Targeted Shooting
The rapper Skillbaby, also known as Trevon Gardner, was reportedly hospitalized after experiencing injuries that police describe as the result of a “targeted attempt on his life.”
Authorities responded to emergency reports of gunfire and a vehicle accident around 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Detroit neighborhood of 8 Mile and Centralia. According to a release from the Redford Township Police Department, officers found an abandoned vehicle at the scene that showed no visible signs of bullet damage.
It was later revealed that an eyewitness took the 26-year-old to the hospital for medical treatment. Reports indicate that Skillbaby sustained gunshot wounds to his hand, grazing injuries to his head and back, and a thigh injury.
Details shared by the police suggest that the vehicle of the suspected assailants drove up alongside Skillbaby’s car and fired approximately 25 rounds, as confirmed by RTPD chief investigator Edward French.
As a consequence of the shooting, Skillbaby’s car crashed into a commercial building. Footage from the scene showed the rapper’s vehicle wedged between two structures.
At the shooting site, police located bullet casings scattered across the road. The preliminary investigation pinpoints that a dark-colored SUV was involved, which left the scene before law enforcement arrived.
French, who spoke with Skillbaby in the hospital, mentioned he is “expected to have a full recovery,” according to reports. Skillbaby is popularly known for hits like “Drip Too Hard,” “Close Friends,” and “In Aning” and has a significant online following with around 1.5 million Instagram followers.
The investigation remains active, and anyone with further information is urged to reach out to Detective Ed French at the Redford Township Police Department.
