Rashee Rice's six-game suspension simplifies choices for owners

Uncertainty is a major challenge for fantasy managers.

When a player is part of a team’s offensive strategy and is in good health, the amount of playing time they get can still be unpredictable. This unpredictability can lead to anxiety about expected performance.

Adding in the possibility of suspensions only compounds these worries, creating a season filled with doubt. Therefore, it’s preferable to have clarity on these matters before the season kicks off.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that it’s important to know the disciplinary actions facing chief receiver Rashee Rice prior to the season and ideally before drafting begins.

Multiple sources indicated Wednesday that Rice will be sidelined for the first six weeks due to a guilty plea linked to a serious car accident caused by speeding. The NFL was reportedly pushing for an 8- or 10-game suspension initially, but a six-game deal was reached. He was expected to have an unscheduled hearing until September 30, which made it seem like a ban might extend into the fantasy playoff weeks.

Now, there’s clarity: he’s set to make his return against the Raiders in week 7.

From a fantasy management perspective, this is actually beneficial. It allows managers to draft in a way that compensates for his absence.

When he returns, Rice will be recovering from an LCL injury that truncated his previous season early on. This extra time should help him fully heal, although he has also been dealing with some groin issues during training camp.

Given the lengthy recovery period, it may take time for him to regain his full form.

His average draft position has dropped from the sixth round at the start of the month to the end of the seventh. There’s a sense that his anticipated absence contributed to this decline.

Once he’s back on the field, if he can shake off any rust, he could prove to be a valuable asset.

However, if his draft position starts to rise, it might be wise to let someone else take that chance.

After all, there are still quite a few uncertainties—like injuries, recovery time, and the overall performance of the Chiefs, which has dipped recently.

But the less speculation there is now, the better that feels.
